Privacy Policy

Last updated August 8, 2026

CamTune is a Mac app that controls your USB webcam's hardware settings. This page explains what happens to your data while you use it — in plain language, not legal filler.

CamTune never sees your video

This is the most important thing to know: CamTune does not open a camera capture session, ever. It only reads and writes hardware control values (exposure, focus, white balance, and similar) over macOS's CoreMediaIO framework — the same interface Apple's own UVCAssistant extension uses. There is no video pipeline in the app at all, so there is nothing to view, record, upload, or leak, even in principle.

CamTune does request the standard macOS Camera permission. That's used only to unlock CoreMediaIO access to the control values above — not to view or capture anything.

Profiles

Saved profiles (a named snapshot of a camera's control values) are stored only on your Mac, in the app's own local data folder. They are never uploaded anywhere and have no connection to any account.

Purchases

CamTune Unlimited is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit. CamTune never sees or stores your payment details — Apple processes the transaction, and CamTune only ever learns the result: whether you own the unlock. Apple's own handling of that transaction is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy, not this one.

Camera diagnostics you send

Preferences has an Email Camera Diagnostics to Developer button. It's entirely optional and entirely manual: pressing it opens a pre-filled email in Mail.app with your camera's name, USB vendor/product IDs, and which CoreMediaIO controls it reports — you review it and choose to send it yourself. Nothing is sent automatically, and it never includes anything about your video.

Analytics

CamTune uses Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics (Google services) to understand, in aggregate, how the app is used and to catch crashes — things like which screens are opened and what causes a crash. This never includes anything about your camera's video or the values of your saved profiles. CamTune has no accounts or sign-in, so this data isn't tied to your identity.

Firebase processes this data under Google's Privacy Policy.

Children's privacy

CamTune isn't directed at children and doesn't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.

Changes to this policy

If anything here changes — most likely as CamTune grows new features — this page will be updated and the date at the top revised accordingly.
